Overwatch 2‘s Art Director admits that characters in the game are just cosplaying the popular anime.
If there’s anything we’ve learned about the “extended” universes of our favorite IPs, it’s that collaborating with other well-known titles can sometimes take some effort. Some stories don’t fit together like a nice puzzle, and it takes some creative thinking from the game’s writers and creators to tie two or more franchises together.
However, this collaboration problem isn’t an issue for Blizzard Entertainment, the developers of Overwatch 2. According to a recent Xbox Wire interview with the Art Director of Overwatch 2, Dion Rogers, the characters in Overwatch 2 aren’t actually “transforming” to become our favorite icons from One-Punch Man. Instead, they’re simply cosplaying as them.
According to the interview,
“That’s our approach; that our heroes are basically aware of the anime and are fans too. And they’re cosplaying as the heroes. So when you see Doomfist wearing the Saitama outfit, he’s a fan too.”

Overwatch 2 and One-Punch Man Marks the First for the Franchise
Though there has been some crossover content with Blizzard IPs like World of Warcraft and Starcraft 2 in the past, the Overwatch 2 x One-Punch Man cosmetic collection marks the first major collaboration in the Overwatch universe. It opens up the chance that other collaborations may occur in the future.
The Overwatch 2 x One-Punch Man collaboration takes place from March 7, 2023, to April 6, 2023, and includes the following skins:
- Saitama: Doomfist
- Genos: Genji
- Tatsumaki: Kiriko
- Mumen Rider: Soldier 76
To unlock the Mumen Rider cosmetic for Solider 76, players will need to complete the in-game challenges.
