Overwatch 2 Compensates Players with Free Legendary Skin

It was a rough start, but Overwatch 2 is making up for it

Overwatch 2 has had a pretty bumpy start–from unbelievably long queues to DDoS attacks to game-breaking glitches, some players eager to jump into the action had to wait to play the game. This was the case even if they already had thousands of hours of playtime on the original Overwatch. As a sign of understanding, acceptance, and in a weird twist, gratitude for playing their game–Blizzard is giving away free cosmetics for players’ trouble.

How to Get the Free Overwatch 2 Cosmetics

To get the free Overwatch 2 cosmetics, including the Cursed Captain Reaper Legendary Skin, players must log into their Overwatch 2 accounts from October 25 – December 6, 2022, and the items will automatically be added to their account.

What Cosmetics is Overwatch 2 Giving Away?

Overwatch 2 is giving away the following items to players:

  • Health Pack Weapon Charm
  • Cursed Captain Reaper
  • 2x Match XP Weekends

Why is Blizzard Giving Away Free Items?

Blizzard is compensating players because of the rocky launch that it had. According to the Overwatch blog

“We apologize for any issues players experienced around the game’s launch. To help make up for any lost time, we’re planning to run several Double Match XP weekends: we will confirm the specific dates for these soon. We’ll also be giving all players who log in from October 25 through to the end of Season One an all-new Cursed Captain Reaper Legendary skin and a Health Pack Weapon Charm. These items will become part of your collection from the first time you log in during that time window.”

This method of “compensation” often occurs in other live-service games that experience server issues.

All we have to say is, if this is how Blizzard will always react to some downtime and bugs, we don’t mind waiting in queue for a couple more minutes.
