Smalland is a survival game with base-building elements, so you already know people have immediately jumped right into building the most elaborate bases known to man. If you’re thinking about where to build your base, there’s no better place than atop a Great Tree. In this guide, we’ll show you how to claim a Great Tree in Smalland so you can build a permanent Encampment for your character.
How to Claim a Great Tree in Smalland
To claim a Great Tree and build an Encampment on it, climb any Great Tree and speak with the Gnome Effigy at the top of it. Climbing Great Trees in Smalland is like playing a platform puzzle where you’ll need to climb a bunch of mushrooms and roots to get to the top. Once you reach the top, there will be a gnome statue you can speak with to claim the Great Tree.
After claiming a Great Tree, you can go to the big open area to build your base. You’ll also now be able to use the lift to ascend and descend the Great Tree. You can use the lift by speaking with the Tree Butler next to the Gnome Effigy up top. As a word of caution, after descending, the Tree Butler will stay at the bottom until you take the lift back up. So, if you die, it will be a long run.
A nice thing about Great Tree Encampments is that your base is linked to your character. Wherever your character goes, you can claim a Great Tree and bring your Encampment with you. You can even move your Great Tree Encampment to other Great Trees around your own world, in case you find a more convenient location.
This makes for a pretty neat multiplayer experience, allowing you to jump from server to server, bringing your base, all your equipment, and stored resources with you, so long as you build in a Great Tree. Once claimed, your Tree Encampment will be automatically marked as private. That means only you can visit it and build on it. You always have the option to open up your base to the public, though!
How to Make Your Great Tree Encampment Public
Other players in your world can join your Great Tree Encampment if you make it public. To make your Great Tree Encampment public for others to join, examine the Gnome Effigy at the top of your Great Tree and select the option, “I want to make my tree encampment PUBLIC.”
By default, your Great Tree Encampment is set to private, so make sure you open it up if you want your friends to help you build it up!
