To continue through Sons of the Forest, players will need to obtain a rebreather to submerge themselves underwater so they can obtain a shovel in one of the game’s many caves.
If you’re trying to continue through the story and finally got the Rope Gun and now need the rebreather to travel through one of the main caves in the game, it can be a struggle to find it. Luckily, like other key items, it can be found in a cave; you just need to know where to look.
Where to Find the Rebreather in Sons of the Forest
The Rebreather is located in a cave on the shore, right next to one of the game’s spawn points. If the snowy mountain is to your south, the cave is to the northeast. You’ll know you’re on the right beach when you see impaled bodies near the water’s edge.
Break through the planks of wood that block the cave’s entrance. Near the entrance, you’ll find a newspaper clipping with the headline “Puffcorp Outbids Sahara Therapeutics for Remote Island.” Continue through the cave until you hit a fork in the road, and turn left into the darker corridor. You’ll see life jackets and floatation devices if you go the right way.
Keep left until you hit the stalagmites, and continue down the cave into the small corridor — you’ll have to crouch to get through — until you enter a giant room with a pool of water with a shark swimming in it.
Hug the right wall, and you’ll come to the Rebreather. The Rebreather will automatically equip you when you are underwater. Rather than making your way by foot back to the cave entrance, you can use the Rebreather to take the underwater cavern back out to the beach. Wait for the shark to swim to the right before you hop down into the water. The cavern will be located to your left.
