Tactics Ogre: Reborn Nybeth Boss Battle Guide

If the Nybeth battle in Quadringa Fotress beating you down, you've come to the right place.

Chapter 1 of Tactics Ogre: Reborn features an optional fight with the recurring character Nybeth Obdilord the Necromancer. The difficult terrain and Undead Enemies make this a tough battle. There are some good rewards for doing so, but they’re slightly hidden. Read ahead for our Tactics Ogre Reborn Nybeth boss battle guide.

Defeating Nybeth in Tactics Ogre: Reborn

To defeat Nybeth in Chapter 1, we need to bring ranged characters, the Exorcism Spell, and Healing & Exorcising items. Then we must play around the tough terrain to approach Nybeth while fighting his undead units. See below for an in-depth guide.

Party Composition for Nybeth

Here are some ideal party compositions for taking on Nybeth in Tactics Ogre: Reborn:

  • Archers with Bows: Bows have arcing shots that don’t require a line of sight. These will help us hit the enemies on the high ground.
  • Wizards/Enchantresses with Indirect Spells: Indirect Spells also don’t need a line of sight. They tend to deal more consistent damage than Archers, but Indirect Spells cost more to buy and cast.
  • Clerics with Heal & Exorcise Spells: Clerics are pulling double-duty in this fight. They can also injure Undead with the Heal Spell in a pinch.
  • Melee Units with Grimoire Exorcism: This item can also Exorcise, taking pressure off your Clerics.
  • Mend Leaves: These Healing Items can keep units alive when Clerics aren’t in range. Try to have one for everybody in your party.

Nybeth is at Quadriga Fortress after the Chapter 1 Battle with Moldova at Krysaro, introducing Undead units and the Exorcism Spell. This mechanic is important for the fight. Nybeth can be challenged immediately after, but the fight is available until the events at Balmamusa. We can enter some Story Battles to increase the party’s level cap and be better prepared.

Scouting before entering the battle reveals that Nybeth is at the top of the fortress. He will spawn several ranged units on the high ground, including Skeleton Archers and spellcasters. We need to even the odds.

Fighting Nybeth

When starting the battle with Nybeth, resist the urge to charge toward the fortress. It only takes a couple of Undead to block the routes up, and we’ll waste turns trying to wear them down while upper enemies attack freely.

Instead, approach cautiously. Vyce will always charge forward, but this will lure the lowest defenders off the ramparts. Once they’re in the open, then approach the Fortress and begin climbing. Exorcise the Undead that has lost all their HP to remove them permanently. Watch for them to drop Green Buff cards when destroyed, and pick them up like the standard kind. You can select the tile they’re on with a move order to see what stat they will improve.

Your units can climb up through the center of the Fortress, but there’s also a side path up the left edge that leads directly to Nybeth. Keep your Ranged units close so they can fire at Nybeth’s units while you close the gap. You want them as high up as possible to reach the enemy.

Nybeth will spawn reinforcements as you approach, based on how many Undead you Exorcised; have Ranged units in place to attack them while your Melee units fight Nybeth himself. The boss has a large amount of HP, so he will take a few hits to defeat. Nybeth can only cast Spells on units that are a fair distance away from him, so trap him in place if possible.

Nybeth Rewards

We get the standard Battle Rewards for fighting Nybeth, but his minions don’t drop equipment. Instead, Exorcising Nybeth’s Undead units have a high chance of dropping Green Buff Cards. Unlike the typical Blue Buff Cards, these bonuses are permanent. Taking this battle later means we can handle more enemies in the second wave and thus Exorcise more freely for more chances at Green Buff Cards.

That was our guide for fighting Nybeth in Chapter 1 of Tactics Ogre Reborn. We hope the bonus stats help you craft your ideal party.
