Tactics Ogre: Reborn – Qadriga Fortress Guide (Chapter 2)

Qadriga Fortress continues to be a tough encounter.

Qadriga Fortress is the site of a tough battle in Chapter 1 of Tactics Ogre: Reborn. That trend continues into Chapter 2’s Chaos Route. It introduces a new unit with a new debuff, and players can be caught unprepared. This is our Tactics Ogre: Reborn Qadriga Fortress guide for Chapter 2.

To win this fight, players need to bring the right gear and classes to counter the enemy. A victory advances the story, adds Bayin to your party as a Guest, and gives you a chance to rescue another person later.

Preparing for the Qadriga Fortress Battle

If you scout at Qadriga Fortress, you’ll see that, just like vs. Nybeth in Chapter 1, the enemy is dug in on the high ground. They also have something new on the ramparts: A Cockatrice. Sometimes 2 will spawn instead of 1. We’d rather deal with just 1, so re-roll the encounter if necessary.

This giant chicken unit is dangerous because of its Petro Breath. Units hit by it can be Petrified, making them harder to kill but also stopping them from taking action. As a Beast unit, it also has a large health pool. We’ll deal with both of these problems.

You’ll also see Folcurt’s Wizard friend Bayin in the top right corner. We need to save him, too, if we want to Recruit him. You’ll notice the enemies are level 15, but our Union level is 17, so we can level-grind for an extra edge if needed.

Cockatrice Countermeasures:

  • Resist Petrify Skill
  • Gerun Powder Item
  • Ease Spell (For Clerics, Valkyries, and Rune Fencers)
  • Beastslayer and Beastbane Skills (For Dragoons)

Ease can dispel the Petrified Status, as can Gerun Powder. Bring both to be on the safe side. Resist Petrify can help, too but there are only 4 Skill Slots per character and it can be hard to tell who the Cockatrice will aim for.

If you haven’t Recruited any Dragoons yet, go North to the Phorampa Wildwood and fight your way to Phorampa’s Doorstep (Right path, 3rd stage). Scout the area for Dragoons; retreat and re-roll the encounter until one spawns. We brought a Beast Tamer to try and recruit the Cockatrice, but it’s brutal to juggle that while keeping Folcurt and Bayin alive.

While you’re in the Shop, see what else you can afford. There’s better equipment and Spells now. There are also recipes for Crafting even stronger versions. They’re not cheap, but they can make a difference in a close fight. Fighting in the Wildwood can help earn the Goth needed.

Tactics Ogre Reborn: Beating Qadriga Fortress

The Cocktrice is our first priority. Petro Breath hits multiple units, so spread out as much as possible while approaching your damage dealers. Ranged Units can attack it, but remember that Beast units have a ranged Counterattack too, and it activates frequently. Ensure your Beast Tamer or Dragoon is out in front, so they aren’t blocked from reaching the Cockatrice; the steps get crowded quickly. We got lucky with a Sleep Spell from our Enchantress, but this can leave it blocking the steps, stringing out our army.

As before, the enemy has a lot of advantages, and now we have an ally in danger. The good news is that only the enemy Enchantress can reach him at first. If you still have Canopus, his mobility is a big help here.

Use your Finishing Moves to clear the way up quickly. Bayin’s biggest issue is moving down to contribute to the fight. This means melee units can hit him for massive damage. Offer up one of your weakened units as a decoy to prevent this; our units don’t die until their bleed-out timer is gone. You can make a wall around him with Flying units like Canopus and Gryphons (also from the Wildwood) if Bayin is struggling.

The Berserker Pirate Darza is very strong and resistant to physical damage. Hit him with debuffs like Breach and Fear. We only need to beat Darza to win the Battle, but unless we make Flying units most of our army, we’ll have to fight through most of their troops to reach him. Eventually, he’ll fall, and the Battle is over.

Useful Classes and Equipment

The following units and equipment are powerful options for the Qadriga Fortress fight in Chapter 2.

  • Winged Units
  • Blessing Stones & Mend Leaves
  • Zweihander+1
  • Dynast-King’s Mead
  • Fearful Impact Skill for Terror Knight
  • Sleep & Paralytic Wave Spells for Wizard/Enchantress
  • Phalanx Auto Skill for Knight

This was our guide on the Qadriga Fortress Battle in Chapter 2 of Tactics Ogre: Reborn. We hope it helps you move forward in this tough-but-fun turn-based strategy title.
