We’ve been blundering around in Tactics Ogre: Reborn. Our last Tactics Ogre game was on the N64, so there’s some skill rust to take care of. Recruiting NPCs in Tactics Ogre: Reborn
To recruit NPCs In Tactics Ogre: Reborn, lower the target’s health to 20%, then use the proper Recruit Skill to add the NPC to your party. Different targets require different Recruiting Skills to recruit successfully. Tactics Ogre Recruiting Skills
To recruit NPCs in Tactics Ogre: Reborn, you need to make sure that your characters have the right Recruiting Skills for the unit you want to recruit.

Setting a Recruitment Attempt
We’re using the Chapter 1 Battle at Arkhaiopolis of Rhime as our example. There’s a Beast Tamer here. We need his help to make some new friends. While it would be easier to run Training Battles, Recruit Skills don’t work there. Use the Scout function before a battle to see what units are available and bring the right Skills to Recruit them.
In many Story battles, we’ll have AI-controlled Guests in our party. These Guests can kill our Recruit targets if we’re not careful. Remember that we can cast Heal on enemies as well as allies.
Once our Guests have moved past, surround the Recruit Target or use the Knight’s Rampart Aura Skill to trap them in place. Knights are a great class for Recruiting Human units thanks to their Recruit Skill and high defense.
Maximizing Recruit Chance
Unlike Recruiting Story characters, the generic enemies have only a chance to be recruited, and it looks like we only get 1 try. We need to boost our chances of success. Start by attacking the Recruit target. Use the damage estimates for selecting them with an attack to bring the Recruit target to 20% HP or lower without killing them.
Our Recruit Skills only work on low-health units, but the lower their health, the better our odds. Placement is important too; the Recruit skills say they have an infinite range, but that’s misleading. You need to be standing next to our target for the best odds. We can see the success rate when we choose our Recruit Skill and select our intended target.
If the Recruit attempt succeeds, we’ll get a message, and the unit’s coloring and health bar will change to the same as our team. Keep a Cleric or other healer nearby to safeguard our new ally. The Recruit target will officially join our party after the battle.
If our Recruit attempt fails, we still have a chance. The Chariot Tarot can be used to rewind a small number of turns in the battle. We can undo our Recruit attempt and try again. That said, if we take exactly the same steps as before, the behind-the-scenes dice rolls will have the same result. Move our Recruit Skill user to a different position before trying again, or deal a small amount of extra damage first by throwing stones.
