Terraria Labor of Love Update Brings New World Seeds, Content, and QoL Changes

Terraria Labor of Love Update brings a host of new changes for new and returning players

From Dungeons to The Corruption, to the depths of Hell itself, Terraria has been bursting with content since its original release back in 2011. Re-Logic has spent years updating and expanding the various biomes, weapons, spells, and systems, with the development of new features supposedly capping off with the Journey’s End Update

To the delight of the gaming community, that’s not how it worked out, with extra offerings since then, including Steam Workshop Support and crossovers with other titles, resulting in an outpouring of support that earned Terraria the 2021 Steam Labor of Love Award. The developers responded with their newest 1.4.4 release, the Labor of Love update.

What is the Terraria Labor of Love Update?

Meant to be more evolutionary than revolutionary, the update has a few new additions and a suite of quality-of-life changes. Several utility items, in particular, have received upgraded forms, such as the Cleantaminator becoming the Terraformer and the Cellphone becoming the Shellphone, granting increased power or, at times, new abilities altogether. They’ve also added new World Seeds while improving the existing ones with new attractions or refinements.

A major improvement is the addition of gear loadouts, a necessary addition given that Terraria has full item sets revolving around specific purposes such as mining, building, and fishing, in addition to the combat and exploration the game is known for. See it in action here:

Builders, in particular, will likely rejoice once they get their hands on the Rubblemaker, which lets them place world decorations wherever they please without worrying about an array of extra items cluttering their inventory. Fighters have something to smile about, too, thanks to a balance overhaul, with melee combat, in particular, being flashier and more effective.

When is Terraria’s Labor of Love Update Launching?

It is out as of today! If you have ever played Terraria in the past, now is a great time to come back and see what has changed. I’m off to see if Light Discs still make an ear-grating sound when you bounce them off the sides of a narrow mineshaft.
