The recent years have been an excellent time to be a horror fan and gamer. It seems like the two genres of entertainment meld together seamlessly, with an injection of new energy with recent titles like The Quarry and the upcoming sci-fi horror game The Callisto Protocol. Developer Brass Token and publisher Prime Matter look to be throwing their hat in the ring with their newest upcoming release, The Chant.
Updated 11/23/22: This post was updated to reflect the new release date for The Chant.
What is The Chant?
Set in what’s supposed to be a spiritual retreat on a remote island, the Chant is a creepy atmospheric horror game that looks both disturbing and visceral.
A peaceful retreat turns into something surreal and horrifying when main character Jess Briars joins the strange and religious Prismic Science Spiritual Retreat on Glory Island. Partially a journey of rebirth, partially a break from the everyday rat-race that is life, Jess learns that there’s more than meets the eye, especially when it comes to the retreat’s leader, Tyler Anton.

What Makes the Chant Different?
While we haven’t seen much of The Chant, we did get a glimpse into the possible monsters that will infect the world. While those are scary enough, there’s just something about the overall aesthetic that makes the game look creepy. Not to mention the long-haired pseudo-religious leader who graces the game’s trailer.
While we don’t know exactly how the game will play (will it be more of a movie-esque narrative game or something more akin to a Silent Hill?), we do know we’re excited to see more footage from this studio.
