Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, the new soulslike RPG created by Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo, has reached the top of the Steam trending chart, but not all players are so happy.
PC gamers who are also fans of soulslike games know that PC ports for some of the best in the genre are sometimes less than ideal. Whether it’s having to download a user-created patch or hitting up your local GameStop for a new USB controller, arguably the only game that really managed to get it right was the masterpiece directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, Elden Ring.
Now that the standard has been set, it feels like a blast from the past when a port is Dark Souls 2 level bad — which is seemingly the case with Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, at least according to the Mostly Negative reviews currently on Steam.
Many users are complaining about PC performance issues, confusing controls, and a lack of keyboard and mouse support. Rather, the support is there — but the support that they have is seemingly so bad that not including it may have been as good as leaving it in its current state.
One user laments,
“A good game buried deep beneath the biggest catastrophe of a PC port that I have ever seen. The game runs poorly for how it looks, but the biggest issue are the controls.”
Another states,
“optimization for PC is needed, current performance is too poor.”
However, all of these negative reviews have not stopped the game’s momentum, with it currently sitting at 74K players on Steam at the time of writing, making it the 17th most concurrently played game on the platform.
Only time will tell whether the game’s developers, Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo, will patch the game to give it better mouse and keyboard support, but we hope so for the sake of PC players.
