If you feel underpowered in Jagged Alliance 3, it may result from not leveling up your characters or selecting available combat Perks. If you don’t know the first thing about upgrading mercenaries in the game, this guide will walk you through how to access the Perks screen and how to upgrade your mercenaries.
How to Upgrade Mercenaries Jagged Alliance 3
To upgrade your mercenaries, click the star icon in the top right of the character portrait or hit the Perks button in the A.I.M. Evaluation tab in the Browser. From here, players can upgrade their characters by selecting a Perk and hitting Confirm.
There are five different categories that you can select from, including the following:
- Health
- Agility
- Dexterity
- Strength
- Wisdom
At the top of the screen, players can see the different Stat thresholds required to access those sets of Perks. For example, the second row of Strength Perks requires the selected character to have at least 80 strength, while the third-row costs at least 90. To see the description of what each Perk does, scroll over it.
Players should select the Perks that best fit the character’s playstyle. Many Perks will enhance specific weapons, like Machine Guns or Assault Rifles, so select those perks for the characters that use those weapons.
Other, more general Perks provide strong passive bonuses that make characters more survivable or better at healing. Make sure to look through all the available Perks before making your selection.
