How to Get Charcoal in Mount and Blade Bannerlord

If you want to craft the best weapons, you'll need a bit of Charcoal. Here's how to get some in Bannerlord.

Do you want to be a master craftsman in Mount and Blade Bannerlord? It is a good option if you don’t feel like dropping a fortune in Denars for the best gear in the game. However, before you get started–you’ll need to get some Charcoal. But where is Charcoal? This guide will show you exactly where and how to get Charcoal in Mount and Blade Bannerlord

Where to get Charcoal in Mount and Blade Bannerlord

To get Charcoal in Mount and Blade Bannerlord, refine Hardwood into Charcoal or purchase Charcoal from specific Towns, like Argoron. You can purchase Hardwood from specific villages with the wood icon above them and most Towns. 

2 Hardwood create 1 Charcoal.

Refining Hardwood into Charcoal in Bannerlord

To refine Hardwood into Charcoal in Bannerlord: 

  1. Head to a Town and click Trade
  2. Use the crafting materials filter in the center of the screen and find & purchase Hardwood
  3. Exit out of the Trade screen and click Enter smithy
  4. Click Refine tab at the top of the screen. 
  5. Select the Hardwood -> Charcoal option and click Refine

If you are still looking for Hardwood on the map, look under the picture of the Hardwood for Trade Rumors. This will tell you where you can pick up more Hardwood and at what price. 

Other Ways to Obtain Charcoal in Bannerlord

You can also obtain Charcoal and Hardwood in Bannerlord by Smelting down items for their raw resources and looting Villages and Caravans. 

Often, weapons will give you Hardwood, which you Smelt in the Smithy. From there, covert the Hardwood to Charcoal. If you’re running down Bandits day in and day out, you may have a large surplus of items you would otherwise sell. 

Lastly, you can always raid Villages or Caravans on the map to get that sweet Hardwood and Charcoal. Just like any other instance where you raid, your reputation with the associated lord and Faction will take a hit.
