Total War: Warhammer 3 will be receiving a much-requested race by the community, the Chaos Dwarfs, in an upcoming expansion dubbed Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs. Here’s everything we know so far about the upcoming expansion.
If you’ve been waiting for Chaos Dwarfs, or the Dawi-Zharr, to grace Total War: Warhammer 3 like we have, today is your lucky day because the geniuses over at Creative Assembly are dropping an all-new update to the grand campaign, Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs.
Just as we reported back in February, the game plans to release three major updates in 2023, and this update is the first in the trio. Here’s everything we know so far about the Total War: Warhammer 3 Chaos Dwarfs and Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs expansion pack.
When Does the Warhammer 3 Chaos Dwarfs Update Release?
The Total War: Warhammer 3 Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs expansion, which includes the all-new faction, the Chaos Dwarfs, releases on April 13, 2023, as part of the game’s Update 3.0. The new update will include three new Legendary Lords, Astragoth Ironhand, Drazhoath the Ashen, and Zhatan the Black, as well as a Legendary Hobgoblin Hero known as Gorduz Backstabber.
Players can pick up the new expansion for $24.99 on Steam and Epic Games or receive a 10% discount for pre-ordering the Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs expansion.
Total War: Warhammer 3 Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs Trailer
The epic 2-minute trailer showcases one of the most highly-anticipated races in Total War Warhammer and gives players a sneak peek at some of the Lords and army compositions they’ll be able to get their hands on in the game.
With unique campaign mechanics and objectives, as well as a brand new faction, lords, and heroes to play with — this is gearing up to be one of the larger updates we’ve seen for some time.
What’s New in Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs?
All three of the new Legendary Lords have their own personalities, skills, strengths, and weaknesses. The new Legendary Lords in the Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs expansion will include the following heroes:
- Astragoth Ironhand
- Drazhoath the Ashen
- Zhatan the Black
With, of course, Gorduz Backstabber as our resident Legendary Hero.
Chaos Dwarfs New Campaign Mechanics
Like many major expansions, this one will also be adding brand-new campaign mechanics for the new faction called Labour Economy. Chaos Dwarfs, unlike other races in the game, require laborers and raw materials to maintain their economy and build advanced structures. From the looks of early screenshots, it looks like players will have to balance a Labor workforce with a Workload to get maximum efficiency out of their Raw Materials mines.
If you’ve been itching to count up the coins like the Dwarfs do, then this expansion looks to finally put their money-grubbing ways to the forefront with the new mechanic — and I, for one, can’t wait to try it out.
Total War: Warhammer 3 The Tower of Zharr
In addition to the new Labour Economy, it seems that the Chaos Dwarfs will also receive a unique mechanic called The Tower of Zharr. This seems to be a new diplomacy mechanic within the Chaos Dwarf factions that can impart a range of bonuses and rewards.
Vying factions within the Chaos Dwarf race can work together to benefit the entire culture. While it’s still unclear how exactly this will work — it’s another thing we’re looking forward to trying out, as long as it’s not as broken as High Elf diplomacy used to be.
New Units in Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs
In addition to new campaign mechanics, lords, and heroes, players will also gain access to a few more units. The following units are confirmed for the new Forge of Chaos Dwarfs expansion for Total War: Warhammer 3.
- Bull Centaurs: Powerful melee units with the upper body of a Chaos Dwarf and the lower body of a bull.
- Bale Taurus: Gigantic flying beast with the body of a bull. This unit can be ridden or used in battle.
- Lammasu: Rare mutation of the Great Tauri that can cast magic spells and buffs. Not as powerful in melee combat.
That’s about it for the update! If you’d like to see all the update details directly from the developers, head to the Total War Blog.
