Minecraft Legends, the new game developed by Mojang Studios and Blackbird Interactive, is much different than the original Minecraft. In this article, we set out to answer the question, “what kind of game is Minecraft Legends?”
Players looking to experience the traditional Minecraft adventure and download Minecraft Legends may be disappointed, but just because it’s different from the classic title doesn’t mean it’s a bad game. Minecraft Legends is a unique new take on the action-strategy genre, and in this article, we’ll talk about what genre Minecraft Legends truly is and explain why we came to that conclusion.
What Genre is Minecraft Legends?
Minecraft Legends is classified as an action-strategy game with real-time strategy (RTS) elements. Unlike traditional RTS games, Minecraft Legends is in the third-person perspective, and players control units via commands given by a player-controlled character.
While some would like to classify Minecraft Legends as an RTS, it lacks the same top-down perspective and single-unit micro elements prevalent in the biggest games of the genre. The gameplay style is more akin to titles such as Pikman or Mount and Blade rather than other traditional real-time strategy titles like Starcraft or Command and Conqueror.
In Minecraft Legends, players can experience a single-player campaign mode or multiplayer versus modes where they team up with up to three other players in PvE and PvP combat. The goal is to destroy the other team’s base while using resources gathered from the Overworld and the piglins scattered across the map.
With a tech tree, resource gathering, and base building — it takes true teamwork and a good strategy to come out on top and win the match.
