One of the nicer things about the indie survival game, Smalland: Survive the Wilds, is that players can eventually unlock mounts to help travel around the gameworld easier. One of the newer mounts introduced in Smalland Giant’s Fall update is the Hornet, which should be a familiar enemy, not a friend. If you want to ride on the back of a giant flying wasp but have no idea how to actually get one, this guide will walk you through it.
How to Get a Hornet Mount in Smalland
A Hornet mount can be obtained by using a Hornet Treat on an injured Hornet. Hornet Treats are unlocked after speaking to Teodrik in the southeast corner of the map. Speak with Teodrik and select the dialogue option, “The Elder said you would be able to translate this scroll.” This will unlock the Hornet Treat, which you can then craft at the Stone Oven.
From here, put the Hornet treat in your inventory. Then, hit a Hornet down to less than half health and interact with it when prompted. Like other mounts, the way to tame insects in the game is virtually the same for all mounts you can get.
The Hornet Treat is crafted using these materials in a Stone Oven:
- Colony Spider Abdomen x3
- Petal x1
- Seed Oil x2
The Stone Oven is one of the later-game constructions that players unlock, and they must build a Cauldron first.
The Hornet Mount is a powerful flying mount capable of attacking and killing enemy insects and can fly, making it arguably the best mount in the entire game.
